Overview
This page describes the primary user roles within the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). Which roles exist in a realm, and which roles are authorized to act on each record type, is defined by the realm's configuration on the backend — the documentation does not list who may publish what. When you sign in on a playground page, the page shows the roles your account holds in the current realm.
User Roles
National Focal Point (NFP)
The National Focal Point serves as the main point of contact for CBD-related activities within a country, coordinating and facilitating communication between the CBD Secretariat and national stakeholders. NFPs coordinate national implementation of the CBD, facilitate the exchange of information on biodiversity conservation and sustainable use, and submit national reports and other required documentation to the CBD Secretariat.
National Authorized User (NAU)
The National Authorized User is designated by the NFP to assist with specific tasks related to the implementation of the CBD. NAUs are often experts in particular fields of biodiversity: they support the NFP in preparing and submitting national reports and documents, provide technical expertise, and assist in the collection and analysis of national biodiversity data.
Government Representative
Government Representatives are officials from government agencies involved in biodiversity-related activities. They collaborate with the NFP and NAUs to ensure the effective implementation of the CBD at the national level, providing policy and regulatory support and participating in meetings and negotiations related to the CBD.
